| I don't think people understand the importance that revenue has in this problem. I see a lot of people angry at the officers, but their frustration is a bit misdirected. It's not the cops who want to go out and hassle people with tickets. They're getting orders from above telling them that they need to bring in money for the municipality. It's the money they're after- ever notice that for most of the tickets you get, you can get the penalty reduced/dropped if you agree to pay a higher monetary settlement in court? I'd like to see you convince a township judge to get the charge reduced/dropped if you offer to pay less money. I think the main problem stems from the funding structure of the townships. When you allow a conflict of interest to be set up such as is the case of a township making the rules AND profiting from those rules, you're bound to have abuse of power. The only way to stop the conflict of interest is to make law enforcement a non-profit entity. Punishment should be given out for breaking the law, money only corrupts the matter. It's not the police that are the problem. It's the politicians controlling them and abusing their power.
